Werner Pirchner was an Austrian artist, cultural activist, multi-instrumentalist, conductor, composer and leading agitator of the small 1980’s counter-cultural movement in the rural Alpine region of Tyrol.

Together with Christian Spitzenstaetter I developed a performative homage to Pirchner‘s life and work for Tiroler Festspiele Erl. Inviting outliers and repatriates to interpret, extend and build on Pirchner’s legacy, we were together drawing connections between Pirchner’s cult-movie “Der Untergang des Alpenlandes” (eng. "The doom of the Alpine land", directed by Christian Berger), the climate crisis and the sentiments of a Résistance that seems both long-gone and more relevant than ever. With music by Werner Pirchner, Florian Bramböck and a premiere by German composer Katharina Schmauder.
