Together with Helene Schnitzer of TKI (Tiroler Kulturinitiativen) I was co-curating this one day symposium on cultural work in rural areas as a commission by the Tyrolean government. The symposium discussed “third places” as laboratories for rural futures and inclusive meeting grounds for citizen engagement, co-creation and a reinvigorated public sphere. Inviting guest speakers and good practice examples from Austria, Italy and Switzerland to share their experiences, the symposium was giving first hand insights into the requirements for and impacts of establishing and maintaining third places in rural contexts. Specifically targeting politicians and policy makers, the invited guests were sharing their stories in duos consisting of cultural workers active in running a respective third places and their local officials.
